Highlights in Campbell Oil History:
It all started back in 1939, when Campbell Oil was founded by Chester K. Campbell on Lincolnway in Massillon, Ohio. For 15 years, Mr. Campbell delivered gasoline and kerosene in horse-drawn wagons and chain-driven trucks. Over the years the company continued to expand.
The 80s saw quite a bit of company growth. In 1980 Campbell Oil purchased Steiner Oil in Wooster adding Shell Oil and Union Oil brands to the company. By 1985 Campbell Oil opened their first convenience store in Orrville, OH. And in 1989, future company president Brian Burrow joined Campbell Oil.
Then in 1994 Campbell Oil acquired 11 locations from Shell Oil Company in Akron and Canton, Ohio, securing Campbell Oil Company’s position as the state’s largest independent Shell jobber. In 1995 Campbell Oil sold more than 100 million gallons of fuel, and by 1996 BellStores, Inc. (a wholly owned subsidiary) was formed to operate convenience stores. Brian Burrow was named President and CEO in 1997.
Recently, in 2006 Campbell Oil reached an agreement with American-owned Marathon, and today the company continues to grow to meet the ever-changing needs of the communities it serves.
